Receiving the Apostolic Nuncio in Syria
Patriarch John X:
“We emphasize the authenticity of Christian presence in Syria and the values of citizenship and coexistence among all components.”
Damascus, June 17, 2026

His Beatitude John X, Patriarch of Antioch and All the East of the Greek Orthodox, emphasized the authenticity of Christian presence in Syria and the values of citizenship and coexistence among all components of society. He made this statement while receiving the newly appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Syria, Archbishop Luigi Roberto Cona.
The Apostolic Nuncio conveyed the greetings of Pope Leo XIV to Patriarch John X, along with his support for the authentic Christian presence in the Middle East, and in Syria in particular. He also conveyed the Holy See’s concern for the Syrian file in this delicate transitional phase of the country’s history.
The meeting included an overview of current developments and the present situation. For his part, His Beatitude expressed gratitude to the ambassador for his cooperation, wished him success in his mission, and emphasized the deep historical relationship with Rome.
